| Summary | |
| The OPTIMISTIC project, concerned with Optimisation
Methodologies in Mixed-Signal Testing of ICs, will aim at the further development
and introduction of advanced test generation in mixed-signal IC design.
Building upon existing advanced tools for control and test systems, a new
approach is developed that will allow the mixed-signal chip designer to
take large responsibility in generation of test as part of the design activity.
The methodologies devised will support engineering tests and most important
production test of mixed-signal ICs.
Part of the strategy is to promote the use of Generic Instruments that are based upon a "device view" rather than a traditional "test system view". This will allow the designer to easily and strait forward use the generic instruments for test program generation in a macro based approach, even when handling complex mixed-signal designs. At the same time, the generic instrument approach features transfer of test programs into different makes of test systems, hence allowing the porting of a test program from one type of mixed-signal mixed-signal test system to another with a minimum effort. Interface from mixed-signal behavioural level simulation as well as low level simulation is featured. To allow for generation of cost efficient production testing of mixed-signal ICs, the methodology development will also include optimisation of test with respect to production test, and the designer will be able to use this as part of the design tasks. |

| Main Objectives | |
| This project aims at the preparation of a set of methodologies
which lead towards a design oriented and design driven test description
and test optimisation for use in mixed-signal engineering test and production
test environments.
In order to meet the demands of shorter time-to-market, higher test quality, shorter test times and the ability to put more complex mixed-signal designs in production, a new approach is required. The approach should allow even difficult, complex mixed-signal designs to have the associated test development done by designers as a natural element of the design process. By shifting the responsibility from test engineers to design engineers, an optimum solution can be obtained from a cost performance point of view. To allow this happen, new methodologies need be devised for the designers to take the burden of generating such tests. The project aims at developing such methodologies. |
